Is Google the Modern Day God?

According to one study, people use their cellphones on the average of 344 times per day; that would make it once every 4 minutes. Google searches have been calculated at 2 trillion per year and when we break those statistics down, it comes out to 5.6 million searches per day, 63,000 searches per second. Is Google the Modern Day God?
One of the most common sights today, when you see people walking, is that familiar posture; heads down, gazing at their phones as they wonder aimlessly along their way. I thought to myself, if only people were that connected to God everyday, what a different place our world would be today. For some people, the connection to God is limited to special holidays, events or whenever they are in dire straits.
In the past, when you were searching for answers, you would confide in someone you trusted, a friend, family member, priest, therapist or God. Today, Google has become our saviour, a convenient substitute for God.
The definition of God is a supreme being and creator who is conceived as being omnipresent (present in all places at all times), omniscient (all knowing), and omnipotent (unlimited power).
Just like God, the Almighty Google is everywhere, knows everything and is all powerful. In the church of artificial intelligence, people are hopelessly devoted to Google and the eternal search for answers. It has become such an indispensable part of everyday life that most people can’t bear to be apart for more than a few hours.
The internet has changed the way we access information and seek advice. We google just about everything online as we stare at our screen. The search engine on the computer collects tons of data and gathers information and facts. There’s nothing wrong with checking information online as we have a wealth of information at our fingertips. The speed and the quantity of information is amazing and saves us time and energy in many areas of our lives.
While Google may have facilitated some parts of our lives, it may have also contributed to a
disconnection from our true selves. By always looking it up, we have forgotten to look within and reach up to God to maintain the inner connection with our intuition, emotions and our higher self.
We mistaken knowledge for wisdom. Instead of just gathering facts, we need to apply that knowledge for that’s how wisdom is developed. Instead of just relying on externally generated information, we also need to look for answers that come from internal sources. We gain insight, understanding and experience in life from living and connecting, not just learning and storing data.
Google may have become the virtual God up in the clouds and cyberspace but, here on earth, we need to remember that God reigns supreme. We need to rethink our priorities, define the role of God in our lives and start including God in our daily activities. God has the ultimate power to keep you connected 24/7 and offer you faith, hope and love instead of today’s combo of stress, fear and anxiety.
No matter how successful we are on the outside, if there is no solid spiritual foundation, we end up feeling empty, dissatisfied and alone, always looking for more to fill up with. When we put God first, our direct connection will help us feel guided, more fulfilled and never alone.
While most of us are busy chasing life, we forget that anything we focus most of our time and attention to, ends up becoming our God, especially if we allow it to control us. We are all in a relationship with a higher power and like any other healthy relationship, we need to make put our energy and presence into it.
We are all connected to the energy of creation. To make this relationship work, start by becoming more mindful and intentional. It’s not something you attend to once in awhile nor is it an after thought; it needs to become a daily habit. In a recent interview, Dolly Parton stated that she embraces her spirituality every morning as she starts her day by thanking God and asking for his guidance and blessings for the day ahead as she does her meditation and reads the scriptures.
Every morning or at night before bed, check your inner connection. Spend time in silence with meditation or prayer; meditation is listening to God and prayer is talking to God. Write in your journal, count your blessings or read some inspirational books. Don’t forget creative expression like music, dance or art. Get outside and connect with nature. Make room for inspiration and guidance. This is how you build your spiritual stability.
God is your “inner-net” – the ultimate source of truth and information superhighway. By grounding ourselves in the higher power everyday, we can learn to make wiser choices and to weather the storms of life as our foundation is rock solid.
As we nurture our spiritual life, we realize we are connected to something much bigger than us. It is important to recognize our spiritual essence as we explore our desire for meaning and purpose in this life. By tending to your spiritual life, we become wisdom seekers. We intentionally make space and time to nurture our spirit and develop a deeper, more meaningful connection to a richer inner life.
Imagine all the people living in peace with with hope and strength.
For the grace of God, let’s get our priorities and spiritual values in order.
How strong is your connection?
