Knowledge or Wisdom?

“Knowledge comes from learning, wisdom comes from living.”

In today’s age of technology, we have at our disposition so much information available to us at lightning speed. Information doesn’t necessarily make us more intelligent or knowledgeable. Without the wisdom, we are more likely to repeat the same old mistakes; just look at history.

Information is useless unless it is supported by wisdom. We are all too familiar with the devastating effects when information is misused to gain control, power, or mislead people. What our world is lacking and could use more of is wisdom.

Knowledge and wisdom are often used interchangeably. They are distinctly different yet complementary to each other. In order to have a more enriching and satisfying life, the key is to find a balance between acquiring knowledge and cultivating wisdom.

Knowledge is about accumulating and organizing information, facts, and skills.

Wisdom is about developing a deeper level of insight through the application of knowledge along with the ability to have good judgment and make the right choices in life.

Knowledge is learned through education, while wisdom is derived from experience.

Knowledge facilitates learning and skill development, while wisdom encourages personal development and growth. It’s about what comes in and what goes out; words and thoughts versus feelings and action.

Knowledge alone is not beneficial unless it is understood and applied. This is where wisdom can empower us. By using the knowledge in a practical and intelligent way, we can see the bigger picture and make better decisions in our lives and for the world.

Knowledge is the acquisition of information, whereas wisdom is knowing what to do with that information and how to put it to good use. It’s about doing things right versus doing the right thing.

Knowledge without wisdom is possible, but wisdom without knowledge is not possible since wisdom is built upon knowledge. It is vital to develop wisdom to help guide us as we navigate through life’s daily challenges and incorporate all the knowledge into practical ways of living and thriving.

Knowledge is related to the mind and our mental capacities, while wisdom is about encompassing our emotional intelligence and connecting with our soul, the inner wisdom we all have access to. Gaining knowledge makes you proud as you think you know so much, while gaining wisdom makes you humble as you realize how little you know.

Plato once stated that love is wisdom in its highest form. Love is the desire for a profound and meaningful experience and is the very embodiment of wisdom. Perhaps we are looking at two sides of the same coin, God. God is love, and God is wise. And just as love fuels wisdom, wisdom nurtures love.

Remind yourself that you may not have all the answers, but you can learn to embrace life by applying your knowledge and experience and by knowing that you have the skills and wisdom to make the best decisions, with grace and truth by your side.
