With winter just around the corner, many people are preparing and weatherproofing their homes. Even the animals are getting ready to adjust to the seasonal changes. We, too, should consider winterizing our lives as we weather this challenging period when we could feel lonely and isolated.
As the days grow shorter and the temperatures get colder, it makes us want to hibernate. Welcome winter and let nature’s rhythm guide you to slow down, do less, and be more as you continue to find balance and thrive. The winter’s silence and solitude allow us to take stock of the past year, reevaluate what needs to change, and rekindle our dreams as we prepare for the next season of our lives.
Learn to embrace the darkness and search for the light within. Winter provides us with the opportunity to tend to our souls. We need to realize how therapeutic it is to relax and recover.
In the same way that nature lets the soil rest so that it can be ready for spring to produce stronger plants, we can also rebuild our lives by creating the conditions for our aspirations to flourish.
Winter is the time for introspection and for processing your innermost feelings and thoughts in order to do the necessary repair work. Journaling and meditation will assist you in becoming more mindful and getting to know yourself better. Make sure you also have support.
Winterize your body and mind with a few healthy hacks to fight off those winter blues.
With reduced sunlight, your body produces less serotonin, which can trigger feelings of sadness, low energy, and less motivation. To brighten your day and lift your mood, make sure you get outside so you can get some vitamin D and keep the body moving. Nothing beats a brisk walk in the cool, crisp air, having fun in the snow, or choosing some outdoor activity/sport that you can enjoy.
During the flu season, it is important to strengthen the immune system, not only with regular exercise but also by watching what we eat, staying hydrated, and adding some supplements to help boost the immune system.
Create a cozy and inviting ambiance in your home. Curl up in your chair with your favourite blanket, light some candles, relax in front of the fireplace, make a nice, warm beverage, read a good book, take a nap, and wake up in a winter wonderland. Explore your creative side, take up a new pastime, and surprise yourself.
Set aside time to stay connected with your loved ones. Share meals that include your favourite comfort foods, play games, and maintain those family traditions or create new ones.
Volunteering is a great way to spend your time and share your kindness, especially during this time of the year when people feel the most alone.
Winter is a blessing because it allows us to press the pause button, reflect, and reset.
Stay warm, and with some extra TLC, you’ll find the strength and hope to make it through the difficult days. Keep in mind that “Every winter has its spring” and “Wisdom comes with winter.”
