Looking for Your Glimmers

Glimmers are the opposite of triggers. They happen every day in those tiny moments that give us a glimpse of joy, happiness, peace, and gratitude. They make us feel safe, give us hope, and above all, calm our nervous system, mind, and body.

We are all too familiar with triggers that over-activate the nervous system causing anxiety, agitation, fear, sadness, and anger, as well as provoking reactions from past memories of unresolved issues.

By training our minds to start looking for the positive in everyday simple things, we can experience those small moments of pleasure that will turn off the Fight/Flight response, counteract the effects of our triggers, reduce stress, and anxiety and improve our overall mental well-being.

The more we look out for glimmers, the more they will appear. And the more we can reprogram our mind, the easier it becomes to reset our nervous system and stay in the present moment instead of worrying about the past.

Become a glimmer seeker and tap into the bursts of energy and light that can provide a support system, especially on those tough days. Glimmers build your resilience and improve your mood.

When you come across a glimmer, make sure you pause, take notice as you appreciate it, and take it all in. Use all your five senses and allow that sense of calmness to cover you in those nanoseconds of bliss.

Keep your eyes and mind open by spending time in places that nourish you and connecting with people whose company you truly enjoy.

Savour the moments like listening to the sound of birds chirping, children laughing or the rain on your windowsill; enjoying the aroma of your favourite cookies baking, the scent of flowers or freshly cut grass; hearing your favourite song in the car, dancing to the music like no one is watching; taking a hot shower or soothing bath; feeling the warmth of the sun and breeze against your skin; watching a spectacular sunset; cuddling up with your pet; relaxing with a hot cup of cocoa or coffee; receiving a compliment or an unexpected call just when you needed it; getting or giving a warm hug.

Pay more attention, and you’ll start seeing glimmers everywhere!
