We all go through major life changes in our lives: job shifts, relationships ending, health issues, aging, and sudden loss. These transitions can be daunting, frightening, and disorienting, which is perfectly normal since we are stepping into unfamiliar territory; however, they are a fundamental part of the life cycle, just as the seasons are necessary for continued growth.
Reframing our situation and tapping into the big picture helps us release our outdated habits and reevaluate our lives. These catalysts offer us the opportunity to press the reset button so that we can rewrite our personal story and refine our values and meaning in life. The discomfort of staying stuck is far more painful than the discomfort of navigating through it.
Instead of resisting or avoiding the inevitable, lean into this uncomfortable time to rediscover your purpose and realign with your authentic self. These detours are not meant to derail you; they assist you in becoming more resilient, focused, and powerful.
The “messy” middle, the chaos between the ending and a new beginning, may feel like you are free-falling and wasting time, but in essence, it is a crucial time for adapting and learning. When your life feels broken, you are in the process of breaking down the old structures to make room for new growth and facilitate breakthroughs.
There is no growth without discomfort, just as grapes are crushed to make wine, olives are pressed to make oil, seeds grow in darkness, and diamonds are formed under pressure. The next time you feel crushed, pressed, in the dark, and under pressure, remember that God is preparing you to turn your setback into a comeback. One day, you’ll look back and realize that you wouldn’t be who you are without having gone through what you did.
Life may not always go according to our plans, but learn to embrace the unknown, remain flexible and open to the unexpected, and welcome positive surprises. Show up, take small steps, seek support, and know that you are never alone, for God is our refuge and our strength. Trust in God’s timing and understand that His plans for you are bigger than you could ever envision.
