What is the Opposite of Love?

It’s not hate. It’s use or indifference.

“The most deadly poison of our time is indifference.” St.Maximilian Kolbe.

Indifference means you use another person mainly for your own profit; it’s a total lack of emotion and consideration for others. Using others is an abuse of love, where the only interest in connecting is for exploitation rather than nurturing. It’s selfishness and treating people like things, without any value or dignity.

This goes against our God-given gift, in which we are called to love others. John Paul II stated that the essential thing about love is the value of the person. God’s very nature is love and since we were created in His image, we have a built-in capacity for love that is reflected in our relationships and through our actions.

Love is a verb, an act of will, and a decision we make to love like God. Our most fundamental need is to love and to be loved. Become the essence of love; a reflection of God.
