Gardening can teach us much about life. As we watch things grow, we need to cultivate patience, faith, gratitude, and respect for the cyclical nature of life. Gardens require constant nurturing and attention, as does our own growth.
Along with the gift of beauty, we are reminded to enjoy the simple pleasures in life and to be grateful for the abundance of nature in our lives. Connecting with nature allows us to find joy in the present moment and live a more peaceful and fulfilling life. As gardeners, we co-create along side God and experience His presence found in the magic all around us.
We learn about the need for hard work, rest, balance, working with nature, and adapting to its natural rhythms and interconnectedness. and how to bounce back from any setback and build resilience.
It all starts by planting a seed, a powerhouse of growth potential. It contains all that it needs to become what it is meant to be. When the seed is planted, we need to nurture it by providing it with the proper soil and water along with the required pest control, pruning, and weeding. In life, we also need a big pile of fertilizer to help us grow. Although we may complain about the mess and stench our challenges may create, in hindsight, we become grateful for how necessary it was in order for us to learn, grow, thrive, and bear fruit.
What we sow is what we shall reap. If we want apples and we keep planting oranges, we need to stop getting frustrated and start making adjustments. We need to trust in God in doing His work. As long as we do our part, we don’t need to dig up the seeds to see if they are actually growing. In the darkness of the soil, the seeds will always be guided by the light to find their way.
Stay rooted in God’s love by keeping the faith and trust in His timing and that all will unfold as planned. We all need water to survive. Just as we tend our garden with love, we also need to spend time with God every day to strengthen our relationship. Both result in growth and both are a labor of love, all worth the invested time and effort. There’s nothing quite like eating the fruits of our own labor and sharing it with our loved ones.
Being alive and grounded in life is one of the greatest blessings we can receive. Gardening not only restores our souls, but it also lifts us up and affirms our lives by reminding us of the potential for our growth and transformation as we blossom.
Nurture your garden, and it will nourish you.
