Jeff is a nature loving, science geek, from Southern Ontario, whose plans on becoming a Naturopathic doctor where cut short when he suffered a serious motor vehicle accident in his third year at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. As chance would have it, he started to work in the natural supplement industry where he spent his entire professional career mainly as C level positions.

Cheryl Ann was the love of his life, best friend, partner in crime and fiancé for 28 years. They were preparing for full retirement and years of exploration together. Following home care for Cheryl Anne during her terminal illness and her death at the young age of 60, Jeff decided to take a sabbatical from work.

Jeff stated that “Life is short, there’s no pause and no rewind”. Thrill seeking adrenaline junkies free climbing and base jumping along with hardcore hikers and mountain bikers staying here long term. Let’s look at scary moments not related directly to the sport.

On a five day getaway to Cuba I ended up in a Holguin hospital for a week with massive leg inflammation and pain. On release from hospital required to rest in Cuba for 1 week prior to being allowed to depart the country. Diagnosis switched from necrotizing fasciitis, where amputation was being considered too deep vein thrombosis to, upon return to Canada, diagnosed as torn meniscus with resulting inflammation causing blockage to venous circulatory flow.

During spring ice climbing at Maligne canyon in Jasper Canada I luckily escaped injuries from a 1000 kg ice and rock fall that occurred above me. The canyon was closed by the national park afterwards; ripped my backpack right off me.

While solo climbing the Italian dolomites I was forced to stay overnight in a crevice at 10,000 feet due to failed GPS guidance and impending darkness. No camping or freezing weather gear with me on that night.

Any pleasant surprises?

Always in awe of the planet, its wildlife and our fellow humans.

Any major disappointments?

Observing wealthy nations taking financial advantage of developing countries, particularly prevalent in Africa, where foreign capital investment is actually a tool to control the government.

Are you a tourist or a traveller?

Mostly an explorer, I enjoy getting out of my comfort zone to try new things, to be challenged, to engage with different people and surroundings, all via non strop and adrenaline activity.
