The real question is how many of these people who have a Bible actually read it. Furthermore, how many of them actually live according to its principles?

In today’s ever-changing, fast-paced world, the Bible remains the most reliable, timeless source of God’s teachings. However, there are many reasons why we struggle with reading the Bible: It can be intimidating to read the whole Bible; some people find it boring, too difficult to read and understand or lack the discipline to undertake such a daunting task.

Between juggling work, family, and other obligations, we are too busy and, therefore, don’t have the time. In essence, it is not a time issue; it is a priority issue. We need to prioritize what is important to us and make time for it.

Every day, we make sure to brush our teeth, eat nutritious food, get some exercise and rest, stay in touch with our friends, and take care of our loved ones. However, most people neglect their spiritual health and growth. And like any other relationship, we need to maintain an active partnership with God. We fail to realize that this requires quality time and commitment. As we read the Bible, we begin to get to know God more deeply and learn about his love letters to us. In the beginning, there was the Word of God, and the Word is God.

Looking for God in all the wrong places includes spending endless hours scrolling on social media, shopping for the perfect things that bring only temporary joy, overdrinking to drown our sorrows, taking drugs to get artificially high, and searching for other distractions that prevent us from making meaningful connections. Many spend more time connected to their cell phones than they do with God.

Imagine checking in with God on a daily basis and asking for his help. Apart from gaining wisdom and patience, we also receive guidelines for dealing with difficult situations and facing our every day challenges. The guidance we get can transform us by renewing our minds, healing our hearts, and feeding our starving souls. By redirecting our lives, we strengthen our faith and hope, tap into an everlasting source of joy, and find the answers to our prayers.

We need to stop making excuses and find the reasons why we should be spending more time with God. As we become closer to God, he will show us his power and love, which will influence and inspire us to make better choices and lead a life full of his grace and truth.

How we view the Bible matters. Just 15 to 20 minutes a day can get you on the road to creating a great spiritual relationship. Start small and develop a reading plan. Join a Bible study group or share with a friend. Check out online resources or contact your local church.

Dust off your Bible and think of it as making an investment in your soul that will bring you peace, comfort, and freedom. How close, and how well do you want to know God?

In Psalms 119:105, “Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.”

Amen

Antoinette Giacobbe M.A.

According to the Guinness World Records, the Bible is the best-selling book year after year.
